Internal Audit Technician (IAT) Qualification

The Internal Audit Technician (IAT) is an NQF level 7 qualification registered under the jurisdiction of the Department of Higher Education and Training and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). This qualification underpins the first level designation (IAT) that all internal auditors entering the profession should obtain. The content of focused training modules and structured workplace training provide excellent insight to candidates starting out in internal auditing or wanting to improve their internal audit skills.

The IAT programme is conducted over a 24 month period and comprises 8 training modules facilitated by the Academy and presented by experienced, well qualified presenters at regular intervals during the programme duration. These modules of 3 days duration are supplementary to the structured workplace training.

Structured workplace training is implemented via a Training Log Book (TLB) which contains competency areas geared to produce a well-rounded internal auditor upon programme completion. The learner's progress is assessed in the workplace by evaluators and the results recorded in the TLB. Due to the programme being competency based, it is possible to extend the learning time beyond the minimum period of 24 months, depending on the progress of the individual learner.

The programme is generic, but flexible enough to cater for sector specific needs. A learnership agreement, prescribed by the relevant Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA), is signed by the 3 parties involved - the learner (trainee), the employer, and the training provider and is lodged with the relevant SETA. The learnership agreement is available on the employer organisations Seta website.

Education and Professional Experience Pre-requisites

A B Degree or equivalent qualification is required. It would also be advantageous to have exposure to Financial Accounting and Business Management.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process

In cases where an individual has relevant experience equivalent to what would have been obtained during the IAT programme, the candidate may apply to be assessed through a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

Fees

The fee for the IAT covers the cost of the training modules, presentation & material but excludes venue & catering costs - there are 24 days training in the programme. The fees are reviewed on an annual basis but are valid for the duration of the programme. There is a non-refundable registration fee payable immediately upon the acceptance of the application from the learner. There is a separate fee for the final assessment which is conducted independently by the IIA SA.
